3.1  Data structure
In order to take full advantage of Catalogs' versatility, the knowledge of the data structure is fundamental. A myCatalogs document does not only consist of a single data type, it also bundles different data types in a single document. In addition to the four main data fields (3.2), a complete text editor (3.3) with all known TextEdit functions (RTFD) including the integration of graphics is available in the middle section. To do so, you can add a picture (3.4) to each document, if desired, you can enter an address (3.5) for direct linking to the Maps of you Mac, if required you can enter a Homepage or eMail addresses (3.6) with direct links, and you can directly add files or links to local files or folders (3.7) to your document.

This versatility makes it possible to catalog a wide range of content. For catalogs with location information e.g. "Top-Location", the address data with direct linking to the maps of your Mac (3.5) are of fundamental importance. For other catalogs, e.g. "Recipes" does not require the address, but the document image (3.4) and the text editor (3.3) are again more important. For example, a catalog for "manuals", the addition of files (3.7) is very important (for example the instructions as PDF and also the purchase document as PDF). If you work e.g. with a catalog called "Projects" the text area (3.3) for checklists and the files & folders (3.7) are very important for a wide variety of file types (such as. Excel or Numbers tables, Word or Pages documents, presentations, or even pictures and videos). Design your catalogs and documents exactly according to your requirements. With myCatalogs you will find the right variant for almost every requirement.

3.2  Table data
For each document are four data fields available, Which are also part of the document table (left). The names of these data fields can be specified individually for each catalog. In our example of the "Top Locations" catalog, we named the data fields as follows: 1. Name, 2. Country, 3. Region and 4. Memo. If you want to use symbols in the data fields (as in our example the country flag), then click on the right data field (3.2) and then on and the selection of all symbols available on your Mac appears.

3.3  Text area
The entire middle section of the document window is a complete RTFD editor. The toolbar (top) is available for formatting your texts. Other important functions, e.g. for inserting images, links, tables, symbols and also the setting of the headers and footers for printouts, can be found on the right. The individual functions for working in the text area are described in point 5 of this documentation.

3.4  Picture
If you want to add an image to your document, click on the upper right (next to the Tab Data Fields - 3.2) and the window for file selection appears. In the left pane of the selection window (Finder Favorites), you can also access your photos. Select the desired photo and it will be added to your document as a copy. Your original data will be not changed. If you want to delete the image again, simply click on And the image is removed again.

3.5  Address and maps
If you want to directly open the map of your Mac with your document, enter a valid address on the right side of the "Maps" section. Then just click on and this address is automatically searched for and displayed in the maps of your Mac.

3.6  Homepage and email
For direct linking to a homepage or e-mail, there are two data fields available on the right. Please note that myCatalogs will consider your input as an email if there is an @ sign in the address. In this case, your email program will be opened with a new email window. In all other variants, your Internet browser opens as soon as you click on . This gives you more flexibility. You can also enter two email addresses, two homepage addresses, or a hompage and an e-mail address.

3.7  Files and folders
One of the most interesting options is the direct addition of files and linking to local files and folders. The search for individual files has come to an end. For example, Create a catalog for your own projects, you have extensive space for checklists and notes in the text area (3.3) and you can directly add the files that are important to your project. Double-clicking on the added file (at the bottom right) opens the file directly. Basically, there are no restrictions for file types. The detailed description of the individual functions for handling files and folders can be found under point 7 of this documentation.
