7. Files and folders
7.1    Add file as a copy
7.2    Add original file
7.3    Add link to file
7.4    Add link to app
7.5    Add link to folder
7.6    Rename file or folder
7.7    Delete file or folder
7.8    Arrange files and folders

7.1  Add file as a copy
You can add one or more files or links to your document. Click on (bottom right) and you can select the desired file or an entire folder on your Mac. After the file selection, a window will appear, where you can choose from a variety of options (except for a folder or an app). If you select the option Copy the desired file is added to your document as a copy and is visible at the bottom right. Double-click the file name (at the bottom right) to open the file directly from your document.

The Option Copy has the effect that myCatalogs stores a copy of the selected file in your document and only accesses it. The original of your file will not be changed and will remain in the original location.

7.2  Add original file
You can add one or more files or links to your document. Click on (bottom right) and you can select the desired file or an entire folder on your Mac. After the file selection, a window will appear, where you can choose from a variety of options (except for a folder or an app). If you select the option Original, the desired file is added to your document in the original and is visible at the bottom right. Double-click the file name (at the bottom right) to open the file directly from your document.

If you select the option Original myCatalogs will add the original of the selected file to your document and remove it from the old location. With this version, you can only access the file via myCatalogs, which in many cases is also useful, because too many duplicates on the Mac would often cause confusion.

7.3  Add link to file
You can add one or more files or links to your document. Click on (bottom right) and you can select the desired file or an entire folder on your Mac. After the file selection, a window will appear, where you can choose from a variety of options (except for a folder or an app). If you click the option Link, a reference to the original file is added to your document. This is visible at the bottom right. Double-click the name of the link (at the bottom right) to open the file directly from your document.

The option Link has the effect that myCatalogs adds only a reference to your file at your document. The original of your file will not be changed and will remain in the original location. For security reasons, the file does not open directly but is selected in a Finder window. The operating system requires this step because a file will be opened outside of myCatalogs and this can not be done without the knowledge of the user.

7.4  Add link to app
In some cases, it is desirable to start an external app directly from a document (for example, an image processing program). Click on (bottom right) and select the desired app (usually located in the Programs folder). A link to the app is added to your document, which is also visible in the lower right corner. Double-click the name of the link (at the bottom right) to open the app directly from your document.

For security reasons, the app does not open directly but is selected in a Finder window. The operating system requires this step because the app is to be started from myCatalogs and this can not be done without the knowledge of the user.

7.5  Add link to folder
In some cases, it is useful if you can access a Mac folder directly from a document. Click on (bottom right) and select the desired folder. A link will be added to your document, which is also visible in the lower right corner. Double-click the name of the folder (at the bottom right) to open it directly from your document.

7.6  Rename file or folder
If you want to change the name of your added files or links (lower right), click the desired entry with the mouse a bit longer until the line is displayed in Edit mode. Now you can override the label and with a click on you can also add symbols. The filename in the file system of your Mac is not changed, you only change the displayed title in your document.

7.7  Delete file or folder
If you want to delete a file or link from your document, select the desired entry and click (bottom right) on so that this file or the link, after a security query, will be deleted. Please note that the file is also removed from the file system of myCatalogs if it is not a link. You can see a link in the listing (bottom right) at the mark > and a file has the mark - (in the table, bottom right).

7.8  Arrange files and folders
You can determine the order of your files and links (bottom right). Click on or on   and the selected file is moved up or down one position at a time.
